Tracking the Link Between AI Hype and Brain Activity

Attempts to reawaken cryopreserved human brains have emerged as a new topic of discussion in the scientific community. Cryobiologist Greg Fahy is conducting research on reactivation using the brain of his colleague, El Stephen Coles, who died in 2014. This brain, currently stored in liquid nitrogen at -146 degrees Celsius at a facility in Arizona, was cryopreserved after death with the intention of future revival, according to the deceased's wishes. Fahy believes that research involving rewarming frozen brain tissue to assess its condition could make a practical contribution not only to future life extension but also to the field of organ transplantation in modern medicine. However, some in the scientific community express skepticism, viewing the complete restoration of complex frozen brain structures as nearly impossible with current technology.

Rapid changes are occurring across the advanced technology sector, including the release of indicators designed to diagnose the overheating trends in the artificial intelligence (AI) industry. Within the AI industry, efforts to distinguish between technical reality and exaggerated expectations have taken concrete form. The recently published AI Hype Index serves as a summary indicator designed to provide an overview of the industry's overall status. OpenAI, a frontrunner in the generative AI market, recently garnered industry attention by deciding to halt its Sora video generation AI project. While this decision means the loss of substantial investment returns anticipated from major partners like Disney, OpenAI is reportedly shifting its research focus to developing automated research systems for strategic concentration ahead of its initial public offering (IPO).

Efforts to integrate the vast data collected by augmented reality (AR) technology into robotics are also becoming visible. Niantic Special, spun off from Niantic, the developer of the game Pokémon Go, is building a sophisticated world model based on geographical information collected from users worldwide. Brian McClendon, CTO of Niantic Special, explained that data accumulated from hundreds of millions of users installing their apps will play a crucial role in enabling delivery robots and other systems to more accurately perceive and navigate real-world environments. These attempts are expected to lay a new technological foundation for connecting the intelligence of large language models (LLMs) with actual physical environments.

The field of space exploration is also advancing beyond simple observation into the practical stages of establishing permanent bases and searching for extraterrestrial life. Moon base construction projects and Mars life detection missions have moved beyond the realm of science fiction and are now becoming key operational tasks for national agencies. Experts predict that this expansion of space exploration will not only provide new knowledge about space but also serve as a significant milestone in determining humanity's future direction.

The scientific community analyzes that these technological shifts will fundamentally reshape the way humanity lives.
