Former New Jersey Teacher Indicted on Charges of Sex Crimes Against Minor Student
A former New Jersey middle school teacher has been indicted on charges of sex crimes against a minor student. Ashley Fisler, 36, of Washington Township, is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student in her class in 2021.
Fisler faces six counts of first-degree child sexual assault, one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, and one count of second-degree official misconduct. First-degree offenses carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, while second-degree offenses carry a maximum of 10 years.
The investigation was initiated earlier this year after the victim, who was a student at the time of the alleged incidents, became an adult and reported the details to the police. The inquiry found that the victim was a student in Fisler's class at the time. The victim reported multiple instances of sexual contact in Fisler's vehicle and classroom, and text messages between the two were uncovered during the investigation.
Fisler worked for the local school district from 2014 until June 2023 but has since resigned from her teaching position.
