New Jersey Koreans Raise $4,000 to Aid Fire-Damaged Family
The fire broke out around 11:40 p.m. on March 28th at a duplex residence on 8th Street in Fairview, New Jersey. Investigators believe the accidental ignition originated from a fire pit on the backyard deck.
The father of student Leah Kim is receiving treatment in the intensive care unit after sustaining second-degree burns on his arms and legs while attempting to extinguish the fire. His wife is by his side. Leah and her younger sibling are staying in temporary housing.
GiveChance, a New Jersey-based non-profit organization, launched a fundraising website on March 29th to assist the affected family. Within two days of its launch, the campaign raised $4,350. Including a $1,500 contribution from GiveChance's own funds, a total of $6,000 has been raised to date. These funds will be used for securing temporary housing, purchasing essential items such as clothing and school supplies, and covering emergency living expenses.
