In a party support poll conducted ahead of the June 3 local elections, the Democratic Party of Korea significantly led the People Power Party by 24.9 percentage points, more than doubling the gap between the two parties in a single month. The poll, conducted by Chowon C&I at the request of Straight News from April 4-6 among 2,000 adults nationwide, showed the Democratic Party at 54.3% and the People Power Party at 29.4%.

The Democratic Party led the People Power Party in all regions except Daegu and North Gyeongsang (TK). In Seoul, the Democratic Party garnered 49.5% versus 28.6% for the People Power Party; in Incheon and Gyeonggi Province, 54.7% versus 27.3%; and in Daejeon, Sejong, and South Chungcheong, 57.2% versus 31.6%, showing a clear advantage in the capital region and Chungcheong. In Busan, Ulsan, and South Gyeongsang, the Democratic Party also led 50.5% to 33.0%. The TK region was the only exception, with the People Power Party winning 56.5% to the Democratic Party's 29.7%.

The Democratic Party's advantage was also broadly confirmed across gender and age demographics. Among women, the gap was pronounced, with the Democratic Party at 59.6% and the People Power Party at 26.4%. Among men, it was 49.0% versus 32.3%. By age, the largest gap was seen in the 50s, with the Democratic Party at 63.0% and the People Power Party at 18.6%. This was followed by the 60s (59.3% vs 31.4%) and the 40s (57.8% vs 26.5%). The Democratic Party also led among those aged 70 and over, with 52.3% compared to 38.2%.

Internal conflict has arisen due to backlash surrounding the exclusion of some prominent candidates in the nominations for Cheongju and Daegu, with calls for leadership accountability also emerging during this process.

This survey was conducted using 100% mobile phone RDD, with a sample size of 2,000 respondents and a margin of error of ±2.2 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. Detailed information can be found on the National Election Survey Deliberation Commission website.
