Vehicle Restriction System to Begin at Public Parking Lots Today
Starting today, a '5-day system' that restricts access based on the last digit of vehicle license plates will be implemented at public parking lots nationwide operated by public institutions. This system is part of energy-saving measures in response to the prolonged Middle East war. Vehicles ending in 1 or 6 will be restricted on Mondays, 2 or 7 on Tuesdays, 3 or 8 on Wednesdays, 4 or 9 on Thursdays, and 5 or 0 on Fridays.
Not all public parking lots are subject to the restriction; those near traditional markets and residential areas, as well as parking for expectant mothers, vehicles with infants, medical and fire vehicles, and electric/hydrogen cars, are exempt. Some public institution parking lots, such as the Government Complex Seoul, which previously operated under the 5-day system, have now strengthened their rules to a 'day-night system' (2-part system).
Drivers must check in advance whether their vehicle's license plate number is eligible for use on a given day. Information about the restriction system is not yet reflected on map services like Naver Maps or Kakao Map, forcing users to manually search individual parking lots on systems like the 'Seoul Parking Information System' to confirm whether the restriction is in effect, causing inconvenience.
