Meta Unveils Next-Gen AI Model 'Muse Spark'

Meta Enters AI Race with 'Muse Spark'. Meta's Superintelligence Lab (MSL) unveiled Muse Spark as the first achievement from a new research team led by Chief AI Officer (CAIO) Alexander Wang. The model was codenamed ‘Avocado’ during development. After evaluating AI model performance last year, Meta invested $14.3 billion to recruit Alexander Wang and establish a superintelligence research organization; Muse Spark is the first outcome from this initiative.

Despite being designed to be small and fast, Muse Spark possesses the ability to reason about complex questions in science, math, and health, demonstrating strong performance on benchmarks such as the CharXiv Reasoning index at 86.4%. Notably, it introduced a 'Contemplating mode' where multiple AI agents solve problems through simultaneous reasoning, showcasing differentiated performance by scoring higher than Google Gemini 3.1 DeepSeek in high-difficulty reasoning tasks.

Unlike the previous open-source 'Llama' series, Muse Spark has been released as closed-source, ensuring high safety with a 98% refusal rate for high-risk requests related to biological weapons.

Muse Spark is accessible through the meta.ai site and app. Meta plans to apply Muse Spark to its platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, as well as hardware like AI glasses in the future.
