Amazon CEO: AI Services Annual Revenue Surpasses $15 Billion
Amazon's cloud service AWS has achieved annual revenue exceeding $15 billion (approximately 20 trillion Korean won) solely from the artificial intelligence (AI) sector. Andy Jassy, CEO, announced in his annual shareholder letter, released on April 9th (local time), that AWS's AI annualized revenue has surpassed $15 billion. This figure represents about 10% of the first quarter's annualized revenue of $142 billion, marking the first time Amazon has disclosed specific performance figures for its AI business.
Jassy stated that a significant portion of AWS's projected capital expenditure for 2026 will be monetized in 2027-2028. He added that Amazon has already secured a substantial volume of customer pre-commitments.
Amazon's own semiconductor business unit's annualized revenue has exceeded $20 billion. The possibility of Amazon's custom chip business being sold to external customers has been raised.
This growth in AI business serves as an important indicator amidst the trend to strengthen U.S. technological competitiveness.
