Kim Jong Un Meets Wang Yi, Discussing North Korea-China Ties, Korean Peninsula Issues

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met with Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and minister of foreign affairs, in Pyongyang on December 10, exchanging views on regional and international affairs.

During the meeting, Kim emphasized that it is important for North Korea and China to deepen exchanges and contacts at various levels and strengthen mutual support and cooperation to defend common interests and ensure the multifaceted and sustained development of their bilateral relations, from the perspective of the current geopolitical situation and their strategic interests. Kim also stated that he fully supports China's policies for realizing territorial integrity based on the 'One China' principle and for building a multipolar world.

This meeting is interpreted as a process of both countries coordinating their positions and exploring cooperation on international issues ahead of the US-China summit scheduled for mid-January.

Also attending the meeting were Kim Song Nam, secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea's International Department, Chinese Ambassador to North Korea Wang Yajun, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Hua Chunying, and Director-General of the Asian Affairs Department of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong.
