Busan's Geumnyeonsan Air-Raid Tunnel Reimagined as Media Art Tourist Attraction
An old air-raid tunnel abandoned at the foot of Geumnyeonsan Mountain in Busan is being transformed into a media art exhibition space through a project worth 42 billion KRW. The tunnel has been included in the second phase of the Southern Coast Regional Tourism Development Plan, initiating its development as a tourism resource.
The interior of the newly created tunnel will be furnished as an experiential media art space. The exterior will feature a picnic plaza and bunker-type experiential facilities, with plans to establish it as a hub for overnight stays and regional tourism.
The project, with a total investment of 42 billion KRW, is slated to commence construction in 2028 with an operational target of 2030.
Rep. Jeong Yeon-wook visited the site on the 10th to inspect the facilities. He stated that this effort is about transforming a neglected space into a future asset for the region, expressing his hope that thorough preparation will invigorate the local economy.
