Animal Abuse Fines Up to 100 Million Won, Euthanasia Ban Mandated

These measures have been prepared to strengthen penalties for animal abuse and abandonment and to improve the protection system for abandoned animals. The government aims to promote animal welfare through the amendment bill of the Animal Protection Act. With the amendment of the Animal Protection Act, related regulations have been newly established or strengthened.

Penalties for animal abuse, abandonment, slaughter, and killing will be significantly strengthened. In the future, fines of up to 100 million won will be imposed.

It will be mandated that not even a single animal can be euthanized at all animal shelters nationwide. Funding for shelter operations will be expanded to ensure all animals can be cared for without issues of food, shelter, or care, and plans are included for animal shelters to transform into 'animal nurseries' for caring for animals.
