Democratic Party Gyeonggi Chapter Primaries for Local Leaders: Four Areas Head to Run-offs

Results of the Democratic Party's Gyeonggi Provincial Chapter's second primaries for local leadership candidates were announced late on the 11th. Ahead of the local elections scheduled for June 3rd, the party's nomination plans in the Gyeonggi region are becoming more concrete. The Democratic Party's Gyeonggi Provincial Election Management Committee announced the '2nd Primary Results' for selecting local leader candidates late on the evening of the 11th through the provincial chapter's website.

The primaries were conducted over two days, from April 10th to 11th, using a voting method involving eligible party members and a voter panel with anonymized numbers. According to the announced results, four areas – Guri, Gunpo, Bucheon, and Paju – did not have any candidates securing over 50% of the vote, necessitating a two-person run-off election between the top contenders.

The candidates advancing to the Guri mayoral run-off are Shin Dong-hwa and Ahn Seung-nam. For the Gunpo mayoral race, Lee Geon-haeng and Han Dae-hee will compete. In Bucheon, Seo Jin-woong and Cho Yong-ik are the run-off candidates, while Kim Kyung-il and Son Bae-chan will face off for the Paju mayoral election.
