DP Leader Jung Cheong-rae Tours Gangwon, Pledges to Strengthen Special Province Act

Democratic Party leader Jung Cheong-rae visited Gangwon Province for a 1-day, 2-night schedule, touring areas like Gangneung, Sokcho, Inje, and Chuncheon to understand current issues and gauge local public sentiment. Jung continued his grassroots tour across Gangwon Province, starting in Gangneung. Meeting with a Yonhap News reporter at the Wontong Traditional Market in Inje County, he stated, "I can feel firsthand that a 'blue wind' is now blowing through Gangwon Province." He expressed that he felt the expansion of the Democratic Party's support in the border region of Gangwon Province, judging that they have a chance of winning in the local elections. When Jung visited Sokcho Central Market, he saw a fried chicken shop, previously visited by President Lee, being advertised as 'President's Fried Chicken'.

Referring to this, he commented, "It's good to talk about Gangwon's development by highlighting President Lee," and announced that the party would thoroughly revise the Gangwon Special Province Act. Jung was accompanied by Woo Sang-ho, the candidate for Gangwon Provincial Governor, during his visit to Sokcho on April 12th, and appealed for support for candidates in the Sokcho, Goseong, and Yangyang regions. He is scheduled to continue his grassroots tour at the Chuncheon Pungmul Market.

Meanwhile, Jung mentioned that safety measures must be prioritized in relation to the incident where firefighters were isolated during firefighting operations at a cold storage facility fire in Wando County, South Jeolla Province, the previous day. He added that he would scale down his site visit schedule and conclude it without fanfare.
