Pohang City Launches Grandparent-Grandchild Care Program
Pohang City is officially launching the 'Grandparent-Grandchild Care Program,' designed to ease the childcare burden for working parents and provide employment opportunities for local seniors. This initiative serves as a senior employment model where grandparents actively participate in caring for their grandchildren, aiming to address childcare gaps within families and enhance intergenerational support systems.
The program targets grandparents (both paternal and maternal) residing in Pohang City, aged 60 and over, from families experiencing childcare gaps. Over five days from April 20 to 24, 2026, the city will select a total of 40 participants. Selection will be based on a comprehensive assessment of factors including income level, childcare needs, and the participants' capacity for engagement.
Selected participants will provide care services for approximately five months, including assisting with children's school pick-up and drop-off, supporting childcare and education, and engaging in play activities. Those interested in participating can apply by visiting the Pohang Senior Club.
