Generative AI Services Shift Towards $200 Premium Plans

Generative AI pricing plans are changing. Previously, the market offered near-unlimited access for a flat monthly fee of around $20. However, the proliferation of high-performance models and a dramatic increase in usage have eroded profitability. According to industry sources on the 14th, major players including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and xAI are revising their pricing strategies by introducing premium tiers or charging separately for advanced features.

Generative AI faces a structural challenge where each query consumes vast computational resources, with costs escalating rapidly for the latest models. OpenAI is projected to incur losses of approximately $14 billion this year, with a paid user conversion rate below 5% among its 900 million users. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman acknowledged the structural limitations of flat-rate plans, stating that even a $200 monthly plan results in losses from some heavy users.

OpenAI launched its 'ChatGPT Go' plan earlier this year at around $8 per month and is exploring revenue diversification by testing ad integration for free and low-tier users.
