Hyundai Motor Unveils Future Mobility Strategy
Hyundai Motor Group is simultaneously pursuing innovation in global mobility and changes in energy usage through a strategy that develops both internal combustion engine and electric vehicles.
Jose Munoz, President of Hyundai Motor Group, attended the global economic conference 'Semafor World Economy' held in Washington D.C., USA, on the 14th local time. The event was hosted by the US digital news platform Semafor, and this year's Future Mobility track session was sponsored by the Genesis brand.
Munoz highlighted Hyundai Motor Group's core competitiveness as its 'multi-powertrain strategy,' which simultaneously operates diverse power sources including internal combustion engines, hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and electric vehicles. He explained that flexibly responding to changes in customer demand is a key factor for growth. He also announced that the company has decided to parallel-produce hybrid vehicles at its Metaplant America (HMGMA) in Georgia, USA, in line with market demand.
The company expressed its determination to foster hydrogen energy as a key pillar of the energy transition, defining it as an eco-friendly energy source usable across ground, sea, and air transportation. He added that hydrogen fuel cell trucks are being operated in HMGMA's logistics processes.
In the field of autonomous driving, Munoz emphasized its entry into the commercialization phase, asserting that it is a technology of 'the present, not the future.' He cited the operation of Waymo vehicles in San Francisco and Motional robotaxis based on the IONIQ 5 in Las Vegas as evidence, and stated that autonomous driving services are expanding across the United States.
In the AI robotics sector, the company announced plans to deploy Boston Dynamics' Atlas robot on production lines.
