Hyundai Motor Unveils Future Mobility Vision Merging AI and Robotics
Hyundai Motor President Jose Munoz presented the company's future mobility vision based on autonomous driving, AI, and robotics, including plans to deploy Boston Dynamics' humanoid robot 'Atlas' on production lines at the '2026 Semafo World Economy'. Munoz stated that the purpose of introducing robot technology is 'to make workers' lives easier,' explaining plans to deploy Boston Dynamics' 'Atlas' on production lines to showcase a humanoid robot that assists with tasks difficult for humans. Hyundai Motor Group is currently operating robotic arms, Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), and the quadruped robot 'Spot' at facilities like the Metaplant America (HMGMA), with plans to gradually introduce 'Atlas' to key production sites by 2028.
Munoz declared that autonomous driving is 'not the future, but the present,' noting that Waymo vehicles and IONIQ 5-based Motional robotaxis are already available in some U.S. regions. He also revealed efforts to apply autonomous driving technology to personal vehicles.
Furthermore, Munoz identified Hyundai Motor Group's competitive strength in its flexible product strategy that concurrently offers internal combustion, hybrid, and electric vehicles, emphasizing the importance of rapidly shifting strategies in response to evolving consumer demand.
