Elon Musk's Tesla Completes AI Chip Design

Tesla, led by Elon Musk, announced on the 15th (local time) that it has completed the design of its in-house developed artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor chip, 'AI5'. This move signals Tesla's intent to further advance its AI technologies, including autonomous driving capabilities for its vehicles. 'AI5' is a next-generation AI chip intended for use in Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) vehicles and humanoid robots, among other applications.

'Tape-out' refers to the process of finalizing semiconductor design and transferring it to the manufacturing facility, marking the first step toward prototype production. Tesla's announcement of the AI chip design completion also included mentions of new chips under future development, such as AI6 and Dojo3.

Samsung Electronics and TSMC have been mentioned as manufacturing partners. Elon Musk had previously stated during the third quarter earnings call last year that Samsung Electronics and TSMC would be involved in the production of the AI5 chip. In the process, Musk mistakenly tagged TSC, another Taiwanese semiconductor company, instead of TSMC. TSC responded via its official account, "Humans make mistakes. It's okay."
