Trump announces 10-day Israel-Lebanon ceasefire

U.S. President Donald Trump declared a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon on the 16th (local time). Both sides agreed to a 10-day ceasefire beginning at 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

President Trump announced via his social media that he had spoken with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, respectively. The day before the ceasefire announcement, on the 15th, President Trump had mentioned that Israeli and Lebanese leaders would engage in dialogue 'tomorrow (the 16th)'. President Trump urged both sides to cooperate to achieve peace.

Until the ceasefire was finalized, the Lebanese Presidential Palace confirmed that President Aoun had no plans for direct talks with Prime Minister Netanyahu. The Lebanese Presidential Palace stated that President Aoun had spoken directly with President Trump.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to invite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to the White House for talks, which would be the first such dialogue since 1983.
