Planning Office Launches Study on Future Vision and Economic Plan
The government has officially begun work on establishing a long-term national vision outlining South Korea's direction until 2045. This initiative aims to systematically prepare for major societal shifts, including population decline (a demographic cliff) and the advancement of artificial intelligence (the AI great transition).
One of the core tasks of this research is to unify the target years for the vision across government ministries. Initially, the Planning Office had been preparing 'Future Vision 2050,' but it has been decided to align the target timeframe with the '2045 Economic Leap Master Plan' being promoted by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The future vision will concentrate policy efforts on five key agendas: responding to demographic structure changes, tackling climate crises including carbon neutrality, mitigating polarization, strengthening industrial competitiveness through the AI great transition, and addressing regional decline.
The establishment method is designed as an 'open type,' emphasizing private sector participation rather than a closed, government-led planning process. External ideas will be incorporated through frequent expert consultations and policy forums, and satisfaction surveys will be conducted among ministries, local governments, and private experts regarding not only the content but also the process and basic direction.
The Planning Office plans to finalize the core framework of the vision and announce it within the year, even before the research service is completed in December. Concurrently with the long-term vision, the Planning Office is also pushing forward with a project to 'Support the Establishment of the National Fiscal Management Plan,' which will set the fiscal direction for the next five years.
