Ukraine Boosts Russian Drone Interceptions With Long-Range Remote-Controlled Technology

Ukraine is leveraging advanced drone technology in its war with Russia to increase its interception rate of Russian drones. Long-range interceptor drones capable of remote control via internet connection from hundreds to thousands of kilometers away have been developed.

Recently, Ukrainian domestic companies have developed the latest drones with operational ranges of 500 to 2,000 kilometers, some of which have successfully intercepted Russian suicide drones at distances of 200 to 500 kilometers. Control has been exercised from distances up to 2,000 kilometers.

Ukraine's Commander-in-Chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, stated in March that 70% of Russian drones intercepted in the Kyiv region were brought down by these interceptor drones. The increased operational range of drones eliminates the need for pilots to remain near the front lines, which can help reduce casualties and alleviate troop shortages.

The full-scale deployment of long-range interceptor drones has brought the training of skilled personnel to operate them to the forefront as another challenge. The Ukrainian Presidential Office has noted that drone interceptor production now exceeds the number of available pilots.
