Samsung Electronics Service Expands Refurbished Parts for Repairs, Cutting E-Waste and Lowering Costs
Samsung Electronics Service is contributing to the reduction of electronic waste and alleviating the repair cost burden for customers by using 'refurbished' parts, which are quality-assured, instead of new parts for repairing faulty products. Samsung Electronics Service has improved the performance and quality of refurbished parts, recovered from existing products, to be identical to new parts through precision processing, and these enhanced refurbished parts are being applied to after-sales service (AS) for various home appliances.
The number of customers choosing refurbished parts has increased by more than fourfold in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year. Repairs are possible at a cost that is 50% cheaper than new parts, and a one-year quality warranty is provided, identical to that for new parts.
In addition to expanding the use of refurbished parts, Samsung Electronics Service is also advancing its 'component-level repair' method, which precisely disassembles and replaces only the faulty component. This contributes to reducing the amount of electronic waste generated and is possible at a cost approximately 30-50% lower than module replacement methods. In the first quarter of this year, about 40% of TV panel repairs were carried out using 'panel component-level repair'.
