Google Launches AI-Enhanced 'Gemini in Chrome' in Korea
Google launched 'Gemini in Chrome,' equipped with its latest Artificial Intelligence (AI) model 'Gemini,' in Korea on the 21st. This enhancement brings improved AI assistant features, such as summarizing YouTube videos, and will be initially available on desktop and Apple's iOS operating system (OS). 'Gemini in Chrome' allows users to summarize information on web pages they are viewing or ask the AI questions for needed information. It helps users cross-reference information scattered across multiple windows and easily perform sequential tasks like image conversion within a single window by integrating with Google services like YouTube and Gmail.
With AI capabilities integrated into Chrome, the global market leader in web browsers, competition among AI web browsers is heating up. Companies like Perplexity and OpenAI have already released their AI browsers.
Domestic portal companies, including Naver, are also focusing on strengthening their AI features, such as by upgrading AI briefing services and launching AI tabs, due to concerns over declining search demand and platform market share. Naver is enhancing its 'AI Briefing' feature, which summarizes information, and plans to launch 'AI Tab,' an 'AI Agent' form that assists users with judgment and execution, in the first half of this year.
