SK Hynix Breaks Ground on Cheongju AI Memory Production Hub

SK Hynix has broken ground on 'P&T7', an advanced packaging-exclusive fab that will serve as a core production base for AI memory in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province.

The new P&T7 fab will span approximately 230,000 square meters (70,000 pyeong). The cleanroom area alone will cover about 150,000 square meters (46,000 pyeong), including approximately 60,000 square meters for the WLP (Wafer Level Packaging) process line and 90,000 square meters for the WT (Wafer Test) line.

SK Hynix plans to sequentially complete the facility, starting with the WT line in October 2027 and the WLP line by February 2028, to proactively meet the surging demand for HBM (High Bandwidth Memory).

SK Hynix prioritized regional balanced growth during the site selection process. Approximately 320 construction workers will be deployed daily during the construction period, with the number peaking at 9,000, and around 3,000 operational staff will be employed upon completion.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Lee Byung-ki, Head of Production, stated, "P&T7 is a key production base that will complete SK Hynix's AI memory leadership," adding, "We will concentrate all our manufacturing capabilities so that the advanced products manufactured here can become the standard for global AI infrastructure."
