Yoo Jae-hwan Appeals First-Instance Fine, June Trial Set
Composer and broadcaster Yoo Jae-hwan has appealed his guilty verdict and fine from the first trial on charges of alleged sexual assault.
The Seoul Southern District Court's Criminal Division 3-1 will hold the first appellate hearing on June 11. Last November, the Seoul Southern District Court's Criminal Department 12 ordered Yoo Jae-hwan to pay a 5 million won fine and complete a 40-hour sexual violence treatment program for the charges of alleged sexual assault. The case began in June 2023, when Yoo Jae-hwan was indicted without detention for allegedly sexually assaulting a victim he met through a post offering to compose music for free without receiving payment. Yoo Jae-hwan apologized via his personal account in 2024.
In relation to allegations of fraud regarding music composition fees, he was sent to the prosecution without detention in January 2025. Past allegations of fraud concerning music composition fees, for which he was sued by 23 individuals, resulted in a decision of no prosecution (no charges) due to insufficient evidence.
