Ulsan Mayor Kim Du-gyeom has formalized his bid for a second term, citing key achievements from his first term. Highlighting successes such as attracting 36 trillion won in investment, leading the passage of the Distributed Energy Act, and securing a data center, Mayor Kim expressed his ambition to 'complete an industrially great Ulsan.' He further stated, 'I will definitively make Ulsan a vibrant city with a resident population of 1.2 million and a working population of 2 million, an industrial capital, and an AI capital.'

Mayor Kim's mayoral duties have been suspended following his registration as a preliminary candidate, with Deputy Mayor Seo Nam-kyo taking over as acting mayor.

In response, Democratic Party candidate for Ulsan Mayor, former National Assembly member Kim Sang-wook of Nam-gu Gap, has resigned from his parliamentary position and completed his preliminary candidate registration. Preliminary candidate Kim Sang-wook declared his commitment to 'build a Ulsan where citizens are the true masters, transcending factional logic,' and vowed to 'rebuild Ulsan through integration and pragmatism for citizens, encompassing the functions of both conservative and progressive ideologies.' The Democratic Party's Kim Sang-wook has also entered the full-fledged election campaign after resigning from his parliamentary seat. Former Gyeongnam Provincial Governor Kim Doo-kwan has been appointed as the head of the overall election committee.
