Seoul Denies Discussion of USFK Troop Reduction
Presidential spokesperson Kang Hyung-seok stated on the 30th that in relation to U.S. President Donald Trump's remarks about potentially reducing U.S. troops stationed in Germany, there are absolutely no discussions currently underway between South Korea and the United States regarding reducing or withdrawing the scale of U.S. Forces Korea.
President Trump previously mentioned the possibility of reducing U.S. troops stationed in Germany via social media on the 29th (local time), stating that a decision would be made soon.
Spokesperson Kang explained in a briefing that U.S. Forces Korea is stably stationed in South Korea and contributes to a strong ROK-US combined defense posture.
The government added that it is closely monitoring the United States' military review and potential changes across the globe.
