Multiple Candidates Emerge for Ulsan Nam-gu Gap By-election
A number of prospective candidates have declared their intention to run in the Ulsan Nam-gu Gap parliamentary by-election. The by-election was confirmed for the Nam-gu Gap constituency after Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Sang-wook resigned his seat to run for Ulsan Mayor.
Lawyer Jeon Tae-jin, the Democratic Party's first recruited talent, announced his candidacy, vowing to rebuild Ulsan through cooperation with the new administration and create a city where young people return. Jeon stated he would focus on securing government policies and funding for Ulsan's industrial structure reorganization, urban regeneration, and the creation of an environment where young people choose to stay.
Lee Mi-young, the Supreme Council member of the New Future Party, who ran in Nam-gu Gap during the 2024 general election, has declared a second attempt in the Nam-gu Gap by-election. She emphasized her commitment to politics that keeps promises made to citizens and stated she would pursue pragmatic politics focused on the substantive interests of Nam-gu, rather than being swayed by ideology or political feuds.
The People Power Party's nomination screening committee has closed candidate applications and begun interviews and evaluations. Kim Tae-gyu, the Nam-gu Gap party chapter chairman, Ulsan City Councilor Lee Jeong-hoon, and lawyer Choi Geon are among those who applied. The People Power Party is expected to decide on its nomination method after candidate interviews tomorrow (1st), with the final candidate announcement scheduled for May 5th if a primary race is held.
The New Reform Party and the Progressive Party are also seeking candidates for the by-election. The New Reform Party is considering whether former City Councilor Kim Dong-chil will run.
