AI Images of Female Criminals Provoke Victim Trauma
Content is emerging that uses AI technology to create and distribute fake photo spreads of female criminals, drawing criticism for inflicting secondary harm on victims. AI videos, trained on the facial and voice data of publicly identified female violent offenders, are spreading primarily through online communities and video platforms. Some of these are being consumed as 'internet memes,' referred to by names such as 'Cheongju Women's Prison 5'.
The trend of treating crimes as entertainment is deepening, especially with the appearance of 'AI fashion spreads' featuring criminals like Jeong Yu-jeong, Ko Yu-jeong, and Lee Eun-hae presented as models. Experts are warning that this could cause severe trauma to actual victims and their families.
As there are no clear means to regulate such AI-generated content, the Korea Communications Standards Commission is limited to recommending deletion or blocking access to platforms. This highlights the urgent need to establish clear standards and regulatory measures to prevent societal side effects.
