Trump Denies Iran Remarks Amid 'Flip-flopping' Controversy

President Donald Trump is embroiled in a 'flip-flopping' controversy after denying his public remarks on peace negotiations with Iran the following day. Critics argue that the president is repeatedly denying statements even when they are confirmed on video. While President Trump announced he is reviewing new proposals to improve relations with Iran, he reportedly denied previous remarks in response to reporters' questions.

CNN reported that it had video confirmation of President Trump stating during a speech in Florida the previous day, "Maybe it would be better for us not to make a deal at all" regarding negotiations with Iran. In the same speech, he said, "If we leave now, it would take them 20, 25 years to rebuild it." CNN analyzed that this second remark cannot serve as grounds to deny the existence of the first.

CNN pointed out that this is not the first time President Trump has denied remarks related to Iran. In December last year, when asked about the release of footage showing the U.S. military striking a vessel suspected of drug smuggling in the Caribbean, Trump responded, "No problem." Five days later, when reminded, he stated, "I never said that" and attacked ABC News as 'fake news.' During his 2024 presidential campaign, he denied using the slogan "Lock her up" aimed at former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, his 2016 rival, despite video evidence showing him using the phrase multiple times during rallies.

President Trump also denied two remarks he had made publicly in 2020. In a 2025 April interview with TIME magazine, he claimed his promise during the 2024 election campaign to "end the war in Ukraine immediately if elected" was a joke and an exaggeration, but it was pointed out that he had repeatedly made the statement in a serious tone over 50 times.

CNN assessed that President Trump's denial of his previous day's public remarks during an explanation of the diplomatic issue of reviewing an Iran peace plan has once again raised questions about the credibility of his statements.
