China Prepares for Future Warfare with AI Robot Packs
A report indicates that China is developing technology for multiple artificial intelligence (AI) robots to cooperate and conduct operations like a wolf pack. This is seen as a move with future military operations, such as an invasion of Taiwan, in mind.
According to a May 4 report by U.S. Fox News, the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) analyzed that China is reshaping its warfare methods by directly integrating AI, robotics, and autonomous systems into front-line operations. The FDD report pointed out that the Chinese People's Liberation Army is deploying quadrupedal robots, so-called 'robot wolves,' with the goal of 'intelligentized warfare,' and that this is moving beyond mere demonstrations to integration into actual combat units.
Concerns have been raised that such disposable, networked machine-centric units could enable Chinese commanders to sustain offensive operations while reducing troop risk, thereby lowering the political and military costs of conflict.
