Democratic Party Strengthens Nationwide Organization Ahead of Local Elections

The Democratic Party is consolidating its nationwide organization ahead of the local elections on June 3. In his address, leader Jeong Cheong-rae stated, "We will look from the people's perspective and achieve victory." He added, "I expect our pledge to create a South Korea where people prosper equally everywhere nationwide to translate into results," urging, "Competitive candidates leading the June 3 local elections to victory, please run with all your might."

To secure its nationwide organizational strength, the Democratic Party is focusing on consolidating support through regional candidate conventions. It began its regional campaign rallies on the 4th with conventions for the Busan/Ulsan/Gyeongnam and Daegu/Gyeongbuk regions. Regional candidate conventions are scheduled to continue for Seoul/Gangwon on the 11th and for Chungcheong/Honam on the 12th. At the event, the party's message on shared issues for the Incheon, Gyeonggi, and Jeju regions was also shared. The party coordinated its election strategy by organizing joint response directions centered on regional balanced development encompassing the Seoul metropolitan area and Jeju, as well as policies closely tied to daily life.

In a resolution, attendees declared, "We will unite as one team for each region to consolidate national unity and national energy," and "We pledge to receive only the people's command, achieve an overwhelming victory in the local elections, and support the government's operations."

Gyeonggi Governor candidate Choo Mi-ae emphasized the need to maintain tension until the end of the campaign, stating, "We need to be a little more serious to be confident of victory." She added, "A desperation to not lose even a single person until the very end is what can protect democracy," highlighting the need to win in challenging districts like depopulating areas in the Seoul metropolitan region to win over public sentiment and garner energy for future generations' leap forward.
