Former Omar Aide Retracts Claim MEALS Act Was Passed

A former aide to U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar has issued a statement for the first time regarding allegations of large-scale fraud.

A former Omar aide claims the MEALS Act (H.R.6187), which they previously stated had 'passed,' 'never even passed.' This raises questions about the bill's actual passage and the circumstances surrounding it. Former aide Kendal Killian stated the MEALS Act (H.R.6187) 'never even passed,' and noted in an email to Minnesota House Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Committee Chair, State Representative Kristin Robbins, that the chair was experiencing confusion. Killian added that the original intent of the MEALS Act was similar to universal school meal legislation and that Minnesota State Representative Sydney Jordan had advanced it. Killian's assertion contradicts the stance Omar's office has previously taken regarding the bill.

Republicans claim that pandemic-era school meal exemptions related to the MEALS Act, sponsored by Omar, created conditions that enabled a fraud scheme worth approximately $250 million, known as 'Feeding Our Future.'

The Minnesota House Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Committee requested information from Omar's office regarding potential involvement in the 'Feeding Our Future' fraud, but Omar's office did not comply.
