8-Month-Old Infant Abuse Death Case Highlights Urgent Need for Government Action
A mother in her 30s beat her 8-month-old son, Mr. B, multiple times on the head with a TV remote control, causing his death. Ms. A stated during the investigation that she hit the child on the head with the remote because he was fussy.
At a university hospital, Mr. B was diagnosed with severe head injuries, including a skull fracture. Ms. A refused the recommendation for hospitalization and instead attended an outpatient appointment at the same university hospital three days later, on the morning of May 13. Around 9 PM that same day, Mr. B was transported to the same university hospital's emergency room in an unconscious state and passed away around 8 AM the following morning.
University hospital medical staff suspected child abuse and reported it to the police. Police confirmed signs of abuse and neglect through mobile phone messages between Ms. A and her husband, as well as CCTV footage. Ms. A's husband was booked without detention on charges of violating the Child Welfare Act (neglect).
The government established and announced 'Measures to Strengthen Child Abuse Prevention and Response' on the 22nd of last month. The government is working to eradicate child abuse crimes and protect child victims.
