Atlanta Residents Express Unease Over Waymo Autonomous Vehicles
In Atlanta's northwest Buckhead area, Waymo cars are operating with their autonomous technology. In recent weeks, residents of this area have reported discomfort due to dozens of driverless Waymo vehicles repeatedly navigating narrow residential streets.
The repetitive navigation of these streets by the vehicles is understood to be a result of the vehicles' route-setting issues. WSB-TV quoted one resident saying, "The problem occurs on almost every small cul-de-sac." Residents have expressed that the frequent operation of these self-driving cars is amplifying concerns for the safety of families with young children or pets.
Meanwhile, Waymo has recalled approximately 4,000 vehicles this week due to a defect that allows them to enter standing water without stopping.
