People Power Party Visits Gwangju Ahead of May 18th Ceremony to Win Over Honam Support
The People Power Party has made a move to win over public sentiment in the Honam region by sending its leadership and lawmakers to Gwangju ahead of the May 18th Democratization Movement anniversary. The party leadership and lawmakers began their visit to Gwangju on the 17th.
People Power Party Chairman Han Dong-hoon faced opposition from residents when he visited the May 18th Cemetery last year, but he has since attempted to convey his sincerity by keeping his promise to 'visit Honam every month.' Chairman Han is scheduled to attend the government-led commemoration ceremony on the 18th, accompanied by Park Choong-kwon, spokesperson for the Central Election Committee, first-term lawmakers, and Gyeonggi Governor candidate Yang Hyang-ja.
Lawmaker Cho Kyeong-tae will separately visit the memorial site for national democratic martyrs in Mangwol-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju.
