The Daejeon City Election Commission has filed a complaint with the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office against district mayor candidate A, accusing him of making donations to a specific church and distributing business cards inside a religious facility. The complaint was filed with the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office on the 21st. The Daejeon City Election Commission judged that candidate A's alleged act of donating to a church he did not attend, as well as distributing business cards within a religious facility, could be a violation of the Public Official Election Act, and subsequently submitted the complaint.

These actions are prohibited under the Public Official Election Act. Violations related to contributions can result in imprisonment of up to five years or a fine of up to 10 million won, while campaigning within religious facilities can lead to imprisonment of up to two years or a fine of up to 4 million won.

The prohibition of donations and restrictions on campaigning within religious facilities, established as institutional safeguards to ensure electoral fairness, are core mechanisms for maintaining the integrity of elections. These regulations aim to minimize external factors that could unfairly benefit specific candidates, thereby guiding voters to make decisions based solely on a candidate's policies and vision. The Election Commission contributes to enhancing the credibility of the electoral process by thoroughly monitoring such violations and responding strictly.

If found guilty of these charges under current law, candidate A could have his eligibility revoked or face disqualification of his election results.
