Samsung Electronics will invest 19 trillion won in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province, to establish a global hub for physical AI and humanoid robot industries. This initiative encompasses building a robot mass-production system, creating a robot data factory, constructing an AI-based manufacturing innovation plant called 'AI Driven Factory', and establishing a new AI data center, aiming to transform the Yeongnam region into a center for related industries by integrating AI and robot technologies into the manufacturing sector.

Samsung has requested the government designate Gumi as a 'Specialized District for Advanced Humanoid Robot Industry' to foster it as a key hub for humanoid robot production and smart manufacturing innovation.

Goo Yoon-cheol, Minister of Government Policy Coordination, expressed commitment to building a robot industry ecosystem connecting Gumi, Daegu, Changwon, and Pohang. The government announced comprehensive support measures for advanced industries, including the introduction of a domestic production tax credit, expanded tax incentives for local investments, and the designation of a 'Mega-Special Zone' for the Yeongnam region.

Leveraging its existing strategy to develop Gumi as a production and supply chain hub and Pohang as a research and development and demonstration hub, North Gyeongsang Province will accelerate policy implementation, focusing on immediately actionable projects bolstered by this investment and the pan-ministerial support framework.
