Seoul Mayoral Candidate Jung Won-oh Launches Campaign, Pledging Safety and Public Welfare
Democratic Party Seoul mayoral candidate Jung Won-oh launched his official election campaign on May 21st, the first day of the June 3rd local elections, calling for citizen support across Seoul with 'safety' and 'public welfare' as his core pledges. Jung focused on winning votes by visiting the 'Han River Belt,' considered a major election battleground in Seoul, and the Gangnam area, evaluated as a weaker territory for his party. After concluding radio broadcast commitments, Jung officially kicked off his campaign with a rally at Wangsimni Station Square in Seongdong-gu, his home district where he served three terms as mayor.
Notably, Jung appeared on a radio broadcast and mentioned the recent rebar omission incident, stressing the importance of alleviating citizens' anxieties in their daily lives and creating an environment where they can focus on their livelihoods. Regarding the rebar omission issue in the GTX-A Samsung Station section, Jung advocated for a construction halt.
On the same day, People Power Party Seoul mayoral candidate Oh Se-hoon also began his campaign with a rally at Samyang Intersection in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul. Oh stated his position that safety reinforcement measures can be implemented concurrently with addressing the rebar omission issue at the GTX-A Samsung Station.
The Presidential Office has ordered a thorough investigation into the rebar omission issue and stringent safety checks. The People Power Party has protested this, calling it election interference.
