Some local residents, protesting the nomination results for the Democratic Party's candidate for Jeonbuk Governor, staged a surprise protest on the 25th targeting the party's election committee during its visit to the province. The Democratic Party rally, held around 2 PM in front of the old main gate of Jeonbuk National University, was attended by local figures including Chief Campaign Chairman Jeong Cheong-rae and Jeonbuk Governor candidate Lee Won-taek.

Protesters held signs such as 'Jeong Cheong-rae OUT' and disrupted the speeches. Some individuals involved in the protest were being investigated by the Jeonju Deokjin Police Station for alleged violations of the Public Official Election Act. The protest was reportedly spearheaded by the 'Pan-Provincial Committee to Prevent Jeong Cheong-rae's Factionalization,' a group supporting independent Jeonbuk Governor candidate Kim Kwan-young.

This protest emerged as an extension of the internal discord that has continued within the Democratic Party since the April 10 general elections. Analysts suggest that the nominations process's friction manifesting into concrete actions in Jeonbuk, a traditional support base, could pose a burden on future election strategies.
