Jeonbuk Residents Protest Democratic Party's Nomination Process, Crying 'Denounce'
Some provincial residents, protesting the Democratic Party's nomination results for the Jeonbuk governor position, staged a surprise protest on the 25th to denounce the party's central election campaign committee during its visit to Jeonbuk. A rally for the Democratic Party was held around 2 PM that day in front of the old main gate of Jeonbuk National University, attended by candidates for the Jeonbuk region, including Chief Campaign Officer Chung Jin-rae and Jeonbuk governor candidate Lee Won-taek.
Protesters held signs such as 'Unfair Nomination' and shouted slogans, expressing dissatisfaction with the Democratic Party's nomination process for the Jeonbuk governor candidate. Police took action to separate Democratic Party supporters from the protesters.
The Democratic Party characterized the protest as a 'direct challenge to democracy' and an 'illegal act aimed at destroying electoral order,' urging a thorough investigation. On the 26th, lawmaker Han Byung-do claimed the protest was not an impulsive act by one or two individuals but a systematically organized attempt by a group of about 15 to 20 people, calling for strict enforcement of the law.
