The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) announced on the 26th that North Korea fired several short-range ballistic missiles and other projectiles into the Yellow Sea from the vicinity of Jeongju, North Pyongan Province, and is currently analyzing the performance of the projectiles.
This marks the first ballistic missile launch in 37 days since North Korea fired several short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea from the vicinity of Sinpo, South Hamgyong Province, on April 19th, and is understood to be the eighth such launch this year.
The Korean Central News Agency reported on April 20th that the Missile General Bureau conducted a test launch on the 19th to evaluate the warhead power of the improved ground-to-ground tactical ballistic missile, the Hwasongpo-11la type.
North Korea's latest ballistic missile launch is seen as escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
