Sejong Mayoral Candidates Pledge to Revitalize Traditional Markets and Night Economy

On May 30, the final day of early voting for the June 3 local elections, Sejong mayoral candidates Jo Sang-ho of the Democratic Party and Choi Min-ho of the People Power Party appealed for support by championing the modernization of traditional markets and the revitalization of the night economy, respectively.

As a measure to boost traditional markets, Candidate Jo Sang-ho pledged to 'modernize the market environment to ensure comfortable business operations year-round,' promising support for heating and cooling facilities and the introduction of an integrated public parking system. Candidate Choi Min-ho posted his pledge to 'activate the night economy and tourism so diverse cultures can be enjoyed even after dark,' conducting concentrated campaigning in the bustling Naesong-dong area, popular among young people.

In the final stretch of the election, both sides continued their exchanges, lodging accusations of violations of the Public Official Election Act and demanding explanations from each other.
