President Lee Jae-myung on June 1 shared an article stating the KOSPI index, excluding semiconductors, stood at the 4100 level, expressing doubt over the method of calculating the index while omitting key industries. He stated, "I don't understand why the composite stock price index has to be calculated by excluding key industries."

The article in question presented an analysis that the KOSPI index would only be around the 4100-4200 range if semiconductor sectors like Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix were excluded. President Lee cited the article and used the analogy, "No one would say Son Heung-min is an ordinary person if you removed his football skills," implying that the Korean stock market should still reach 4100 even without semiconductors.

Meanwhile, separately from the President's remarks, the KOSPI index extended its gains during intraday trading, showing an upward trend that saw it break past the 8800 mark for the first time in history.
