Probe Launched into Firefighter's Death by Office for Government Policy Coordination
President Yoon Suk-yeol has ordered the Office for Government Policy Coordination to conduct a thorough investigation into allegations of inadequate response by fire authorities and the dismissal of the family's requests for an internal review in connection with the death of a female firefighter last year.
The President instructed that the investigation cover the cause and circumstances of the death, including forced drinking at company events, and the reasons why the request for an internal review was ignored, but designated the Office for Government Policy Coordination, rather than the National Fire Agency, as the investigative body to ensure objectivity.
He emphasized that if the investigation finds that forced drinking and the disregard of the request for an internal review were true, maximum disciplinary action, including reprimands, criminal prosecution, civil damages, and recourse claims, should be taken to prevent recurrence.
