Daegu City, KORAIL Partner for Homeless Employment Initiative
Daegu Metropolitan City and Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) are joining forces for an employment program to help the homeless achieve stable self-reliance.
Daegu City, KORAIL Daegu Station, and the Daegu Homeless Comprehensive Support Center signed a business agreement on the 24th for 'Homeless Job Creation Cooperation,' aimed at helping homeless individuals gain new opportunities. The agreement pledges the three organizations to work together to provide steady employment for the homeless, foster their ability to live independently, and contribute to keeping the area around Daegu Station clean.
Six homeless individuals participating in the program will engage in environmental cleanup activities, including cleaning Daegu Station, for approximately six months starting June 15, receiving a monthly salary of around 910,000 won. KORAIL Daegu Station has supported the homeless employment program annually since 2020. In the past six years, 35 out of 42 participants (83%) have successfully transitioned out of homelessness.
Lee Jae-hong, Director of Daegu Metropolitan City's Health and Welfare Bureau, expressed gratitude for KORAIL's social contribution efforts and support for the self-reliance of the homeless. He stated that efforts are being made to implement tailored self-sufficiency policies to help homeless individuals build a foundation for independence and become healthy members of the community.
