Man in his 60s fined 7 million won for sexually assaulting woman 30 years his junior

A court of first instance in Wonju, Gangwon Province, has sentenced a man in his 60s to a 7 million won fine for sexually assaulting a woman 30 years his junior. The Chuncheon District Court's Wonju Branch, Criminal Division 1, handed down the ruling to Mr. A (69) on charges of indecent assault and also ordered him to complete 40 hours of a sex offender treatment program.

The court cited Mr. A's denial of the charges in court, his agreement and payment of money to the victim, and his advanced age with no prior criminal record as mitigating factors in determining the sentence.

Mr. A is accused of touching the private parts of Ms. B (39) while she was cleaning the bidet at his home last July, and of embracing her from behind and pressing his body against hers while she was resting. The court based its decision on phone call records between Mr. A and Ms. B the day after the incident, which indicated that Mr. A had offered an apology in response to Ms. B's protests.
