Seoul Unification Minister: Trump's Photo Release with Kim Jong Un Signals Resumption of North Korea-US Dialogue
Unification Minister Jeong Dong-young interpreted former U.S. President Donald Trump's posting of a photo from his first summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in 2018 on social media as a signal to prepare for North Korea-U.S. summit talks.
Minister Jeong posted on his Facebook page, marking the 26th anniversary of the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration, that the clear task is 'to manage and transform the precarious hostile relations between two countries into peaceful coexistence.'
Furthermore, responding to North Korea's accusation that the current government's Korean Peninsula peace policy is a 'peace mask,' Minister Jeong countered, 'It is not a mask,' and emphasized, 'We will continue to make efforts with sincerity.'
These remarks by Minister Jeong are interpreted as demonstrating the South Korean government's commitment to securing diplomatic momentum for the resumption of North Korea-U.S. dialogue and improving inter-Korean relations.
