A report has emerged concerning the 'Yellow Umbrella Savings Plan,' a program for small business owners, indicating that contributions may be treated as special income when recipients receive a lump sum upon withdrawal. This issue came to light on June 6, 2026, when a user named 'My Idea Broadcast Exposure' raised a question about whether contributions are captured as special income when canceling the Yellow Umbrella Savings Plan. The user expressed doubt about the possibility of past contributions included in the withdrawal refunds of the Yellow Umbrella Savings Plan being considered special income under the Income Tax Act and requested information sharing. It was pointed out that contributions could be classified as special income upon cancellation of the Yellow Umbrella Savings Plan, potentially leading to tax burdens. If classified as special income, it would be combined with existing income and taxed according to comprehensive income tax rates.

This report was mentioned alongside other cases: the fairness controversy related to Lotte CALIVERSE's event insider awards and refund structure on May 14, 2026; allegations of manipulation in the performance evaluation of Korail Tourism Development's peak wage system and conflicts of interest on May 11; accusations of abuse of financial transaction suspension by Saemaul Geumgo and Woori Bank on May 8; the court's reaffirmation of notice of non-existence of information, duty to explain, and record management responsibilities in the discrimination complaint case regarding female-only hiring by Oullim Co., Ltd. on May 2; allegations of public official duty violations and erosion of public system trust in the processing of court registry applications on April 23; controversy over the permitting and commencement of construction for Anseong City development projects without consent for private roads on April 3; a complaint regarding illegal and improper acts by Korail Tourism Development, an affiliate of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, on March 31; allegations of arbitrary changes to personnel regulations by a specific executive of a public institution under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for personal gain on March 27; and the case where Meritz Fire & Marine Insurance responded that compensation for an 8-week severe injury victim would be difficult on March 25. Previously, there were also the procedural violation controversy in Anseong City's development project on April 3, 2026, the complaint about illegal and improper acts by Korail Tourism Development on March 31, and allegations of arbitrary changes to personnel regulations by a specific executive of a public institution under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on March 27. On March 25, Meritz Fire & Marine Insurance stated it would be difficult to compensate the victim of an 8-week severe injury.

As of now, there has been no official statement from relevant authorities or related institutions regarding the issue of contributions being treated as special income upon cancellation of the Yellow Umbrella Savings Plan.
