Trump Urges Netanyahu to Show 'Responsibility,' Declares 'No Israel Without America'

U.S. President Donald Trump has urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to show greater responsibility regarding the situation in Lebanon. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Evian, France, President Trump reiterated his good relationship with Prime Minister Netanyahu but stressed that "Israel does not exist without the United States." He stated, "I've had a great relationship with Bibi (Netanyahu), but Bibi has to show more responsibility now on the Lebanon issue."

President Trump indicated he was not satisfied with how Israel has handled the situation with Lebanon and Hezbollah, adding that the situation has dragged on. He even suggested that if Israel cannot adequately deal with Hezbollah, it would be better to let the Syrian government handle it. President Trump remarked that Israel has been fighting Hezbollah for too long, and that it is unnecessary to demolish apartment buildings whenever looking for someone, noting that many people live in apartments and not all of them are Hezbollah members.

The President's remarks on this day came as Israel continued its occupation of parts of Lebanon despite the announcement of an agreement between the U.S. and Iran. His comments were interpreted as dissatisfaction with Israel's airstrikes in Lebanon on the 14th, which complicated negotiations, and its subsequent declaration of intent to continue the occupation after the agreement. Prime Minister Netanyahu stated in a press conference the previous day that Israel would continue its occupation of Lebanon and its fight against proxies like Hezbollah. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi claimed that Israel's continued occupation of Lebanon violates the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the United States.

President Trump's remarks were seen as an attempt to reaffirm the U.S. position within the complex Middle East conflict and to increase pressure on Israel's actions.
