Democratic Party Committee Urges Investigation into Jang Dong-hyuk Allegations
Members of the Democratic Party's (DP) Committee on Land, Infrastructure, and Transport held a press conference on the 18th at the National Assembly's Communication Center, urging an investigation into allegations of preferential real estate transactions and conflicts of interest concerning Jang Dong-hyuk, a representative of the ruling People Power Party. The DP committee members asserted that details related to the allegations of Representative Jang's speculative dealings in development real estate, first raised during last year's parliamentary audit, are now emerging.
They added that while Representative Jang claims to be a victim of a 600 million won fraud, he is also suspected of providing legal advice for the establishment of a shell company and asset transfer, acting as the key salesperson, and introducing lawyers to the CEO of Company C. Furthermore, the committee members pointed to reports suggesting that Representative Jang and his spouse, facing the risk of losing their investment, visited the company and threatened them by stating, "My husband is a chief judge at the local court. I will not let this go," leading to compensation as a substitute for the land.
The committee raised suspicions of violating the Act on Preventing Conflicts of Interest, citing Representative Jang's demand for an increase of 52.8 billion won in highway budget near his own land when he served as a member of the subcommittee on budget for the Legislation and Budget Committee.
